Welcome to Southern Group Building Control
Building Regulations are designed by Central Government to protect people and the environment, and ensure equal
access for everybody. They provide a standard for construction that gives us confidence in the buildings we use,
and an assurance that they have also been designed to conserve our environment and natural resources.
Many people are involved in the construction industry. By working together professionals and specialists from various
disciplines design and construct the buildings that society requires. Building Control is the profession with a particular
function to offer advice and to ensure that buildings comply with the necessary Building Regulations. Each District Council
has a Building Control department.
I am the Chairman of the Southern Group Building Control Committee which is a body made up of two Councillors from the
Councils of Armagh, Banbridge, Craigavon and Newry & Mourne. The Committee has been established by statute
and has responsibility to co-ordinate and monitor the Building Control service in these Councils, which
together make up the 'Southern Group'.
I trust that you find the site useful and invite any comments you may have.
Best regards,
Councillor Seamus Doyle
